Youth Eating Disorder Support at Journey to Health

We know that eating disorder recovery is possible. We also know that early intervention and comprehensiveindividualized support are essential in recovery. With the long waitlists for most public eating disorder programs, many youth are left waiting to get the support that they need. We provide specialized support options youth who have eating disorders.

Individual support is available with any of our eating disorder informed clinicians. However, for those who are looking for, and may require, more support than regular 1:1 or who may be transitioning out of a higher level of care (such as an inpatient admission), admission into our comprehensive program is available.

Parents/carers are essential in a youth’s recovery. We not only supports the youth recovering from the eating disorder but also the parent(s)/carer(s) helping them along their way to recovery.

Youth Eating Disorder Program Information

Comprehensive, indivdiualized support.

Our youth eating disorder recovery program is for those 18 years of age or younger, and who are residents of British Columbia. In-person and/or virtual support is available.

Though certain aspects of the program are set, individualization is provided for each participant entering the program. This individualized treatment plan is presented and provided to families after initial assessments are completed. Families can then decide whether to move forward through the comprehensive program, or choose other support options presented (for example, only 1:1 support).

The individualized comprehensive program may include:

  • Initial medical, nutrition and mental health assessments
  • Comprehensive, individualized treatment plan within program structure
  • Collaborative, team based support
  • Dietitian-guided nutrition rehabilitation support
  • Therapist-provided mental health support
  • Eating Disorder informed ongoing medical monitoring support, in collaboration with your doctor
  • Consultation with affiliate Nurse Practitioner specializing in Mental Health, as needed
  • Team and Family meetings
  • Monthly Parent-to-Parent Support Group
  • Monthly educational groups for youth and parents
  • Meal support, as needed

We support various eating disorders, diagnosed or undiagnosed but suspected, including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

Program Costs

Program costs vary depending on the needs of the individual. The Care Director would meet with you to provide an individualized treatment plan once the initial assessments are complete, including an estimated program cost. 

If you have extended health benefits, your insurer may cover provide reimbursement for some of the costs for therapist, dietitian and/or nurse support. If you are unsure if you have coverage, please contact your insurance provider. 

Financial Support – If finances are a barrier to your child receiving support or accessing private care, please let us know. We do reserve some spots in our program to provide reduced fee support. Please indicate this in your application and/or mention it to our Care Director to explore this option further.

FREE Parent/Carer Support Group - Navigating Eating Disorder Recovery

 

This group runs on the second Tuesday of each month. 

There are two time slots available to help accommodate different schedules. If you would like to join this group, please click on the link below and select the time you are interested it. A video link will be sent out within 24 hours of the group time.

Registration is open to parents/carers throughout Canada.
